What clients say when their pet needed help right away.

★★★★★

“We recently took our 11-year-old Yorkie during a very scary and painful time. He was screaming in pain for minutes at a time. From the very first phone call, Nova Pet Health Center stood out. The person who answered was compassionate, attentive, and genuinely cared, insisting we bring him in right away. The care and kindness we received meant everything to us.”

“I came in on the weekend after my regular vet said they didn't have any more appointments. I talked to Keisha, she let me come in after I explained the emergency with my cat. She explained everything and helped me pick the best course of action — so happy I chose them.”

Is this your situation?

Not sure if it's urgent?
Call us. We'll tell you.

One of the hardest things about having a sick pet is not knowing what to do. Is this serious? Can it wait until tomorrow?

We'd rather you call us and find out than sit home worrying. Tell us what you're seeing — we'll let you know whether your pet needs to come in today, can wait for a scheduled appointment, or needs emergency care outside our hours. That's a call we make every day, and we're glad to make it for you.

We see walk-ins and can usually accommodate you quickly — but calling ahead first means we're ready when you arrive.

Hours
Mon – Fri8:00 am – 6:00 pm Saturday8:00 am – 12:00 pm SundayClosed
If your pet needs care outside these hours, please seek a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital. We'll always tell you honestly when that's the right call.

Signs your pet may need to be seen today

New patients welcome

If you've been looking for a regular vet and your pet needs to be seen today — this is a good way to start. Call us.

What to expect

A real exam. A real diagnosis.
A clear plan.

A sick visit at Nova Pets is a full clinical evaluation — not a quick look and a generic prescription. Dr. Masood has 35+ years of experience reading the signs that matter.

1
We listen first
You tell us what you've noticed, when it started, and what's changed. That history matters as much as anything we find on exam.
2
Full physical examination
Temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, lymph nodes, abdomen, eyes, ears, skin, gait. Everything relevant to what you've described gets evaluated.
3
Diagnostics if needed
Digital X-rays are available in-house. Bloodwork and urinalysis are sent to our lab with results typically the following day. For imaging beyond X-ray, we'll schedule what's needed.
4
Honest diagnosis and options
We tell you what we found, what we think is going on, and what your realistic options are — including what they'll cost. We recommend what's right, not what's most expensive.
5
Treatment and follow-up
Medications prescribed on-site when needed, with clear instructions. We'll tell you what to watch for and when to call us back.

Who we see

Dogs, cats, and exotic pets —
all under one roof.

Dogs
Same-day care for sick dogs — from vomiting to serious illness. Dogs hide pain well. If something seems off, trust that instinct.
  • Gastrointestinal illness — vomiting, diarrhea, suspected ingestion
  • Respiratory illness — kennel cough, upper respiratory infections
  • Skin conditions — allergies, hot spots, infections, mange
  • Ear infections — bacterial, yeast, mites
  • Eye conditions — conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, discharge
  • Urinary issues — UTIs, crystals, straining
  • Wounds and lacerations
  • Fever, lethargy, systemic illness
  • Pain evaluation and management
  • Lameness and musculoskeletal concerns
Cats
Cats mask illness instinctively. By the time symptoms are obvious, something has often been wrong for a while. Don't wait on the signs.
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Eye and ear conditions
  • Skin conditions and parasites
  • Lethargy or sudden behavior changes
  • Wounds and abscesses
  • Chronic disease — kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes
  • Urinary issues — UTIs, crystals
Urinary blockages: A male cat straining to urinate or producing little to no urine needs same-day evaluation — call us right away. We can typically see these early in the day.
Exotic Pets
Most practices in Northern Virginia don't see exotics. We've been doing it for over 35 years. Exotic animals deteriorate faster — don't wait.
  • Birds — lethargy, sitting at cage bottom, fluffed feathers
  • Rabbits — not eating, GI stasis, labored breathing
  • Guinea pigs — lethargy, weight loss, respiratory issues
  • Ferrets — vomiting, weakness, hair loss
  • Reptiles — lethargy, loss of appetite, respiratory signs
  • Other small mammals
If your exotic pet seems off: call us before assuming it can wait. With small animals, things can change quickly.

The honest answer

Emergency hospitals are for emergencies.
We're for everything else.

Emergency veterinary hospitals do excellent work — but if your pet isn't in a life-threatening situation, showing up means long waits, high costs, and care from a doctor who has never met your pet.

At Nova Pets, you get Dr. Masood — who may already know your pet, who will take the time to actually examine them, and who charges general practice rates. If it turns out your pet needs more than we can handle, or needs care outside our hours, we'll tell you immediately. But most sick pets don't need emergency care. They need a good vet, today.

Why Nova Pets

What sets our urgent care apart.

25+ Years Clinical Experience
You are seen by Dr. Masood — not a rotating staff member. 25+ years of clinical experience including internal medicine, surgery, and urgent care.
Same-day appointments
Same-day urgent slots are held specifically for sick and injured patients. You can reach a real person by phone during clinic hours — Mon–Fri 9am–3pm, Sat 9am–12pm.
In-House Lab & X-ray
Bloodwork, urinalysis, and digital radiographs run on-site with same-visit results. You leave with answers — not a referral for tests you need to schedule elsewhere.
General practice pricing
Not emergency rates. We're also upfront about costs before we proceed.
Same doctor, every visit
Dr. Masood already has context if your pet has been here. That changes the quality of care.
Walk-ins welcome
Call ahead if you can — but if you show up, we'll see you. No long wait times.
