Why it matters

One of the most impactful decisions
you can make for your pet's health.

Spaying and neutering isn't just about population control — it has real, lasting health benefits for your pet. Spayed females have dramatically reduced risk of mammary tumors and completely eliminate the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer. Neutered males have no risk of testicular cancer and significantly lower risk of prostate problems.

Behaviorally, altered pets are typically calmer, less likely to roam, and easier to manage. And for female dogs and cats, it eliminates heat cycles entirely — which means no more unwanted pregnancies, no hormonal mood changes, and no male animals showing up at your door.

The best time to spay or neuter depends on your pet's species, breed, and size. We'll discuss timing with you at your consultation and give you an honest recommendation based on what's right for your specific animal.

Reduced cancer risk
Spayed females: dramatically reduced mammary tumor risk, zero uterine or ovarian cancer risk. Neutered males: zero testicular cancer risk.
Longer, healthier life
Studies consistently show spayed and neutered pets live longer on average than intact animals.
Eliminates heat cycles
No more heat cycles, hormonal behavior, unwanted pregnancies, or attracting male animals.
Calmer behavior
Reduced roaming, marking, aggression, and hormone-driven behavior in both dogs and cats.

What to expect

What the process looks like
from consultation to recovery.

1
Consultation
We discuss your pet's age, size, health status, and the best timing for the procedure. We answer all your questions and explain exactly what to expect.
2
Pre-surgical bloodwork
Recommended before any surgery — especially for older pets or those with known health conditions. Gives us a clear picture of organ function before anesthesia. We'll discuss whether it's recommended for your specific pet.
3
Day of surgery
Your pet arrives fasted per our pre-op instructions. We place an IV catheter, administer anesthesia, and continuously monitor vitals throughout the procedure.
4
Recovery
Your pet recovers in our facility with our team watching closely. Most pets go home the same day with pain medications and clear aftercare instructions.
5
Post-op care
We send your pet home with everything they need — pain management medications and instructions on activity restriction, incision care, and when to call us.
When is the right time to spay or neuter?
Timing recommendations vary by species, breed, and size. Traditionally, dogs were spayed or neutered around 6 months. Newer research suggests larger breeds may benefit from waiting longer. We'll give you a specific recommendation for your pet at your consultation — not a one-size-fits-all answer.
Pricing
Pricing varies based on your pet's species, size, age, and any additional care required. Call us or schedule a consultation and we'll give you a clear quote.
Generally speaking — the older and larger the pet, the higher the cost. This reflects the additional complexity and monitoring required for larger animals and those with more developed anatomy.
