Urgent Surgical Procedures

Urgent surgical care focuses on conditions where delay may result in serious complications. The following are common urgent surgeries performed at Nova Pets.

Foreign Body Surgery

Ingestion of foreign material can cause intestinal obstruction, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dehydration. When obstruction prevents normal passage or complications are suspected, prompt surgical removal is required to restore gastrointestinal function and prevent perforation.

Pyometra Surgery

Pyometra is a serious uterine infection that can progress rapidly and lead to systemic illness. Surgical removal of the infected uterus is typically necessary to prevent sepsis, stabilize the patient, and reduce the risk of life-threatening complications associated with delayed treatment.

Splenectomy

Splenic masses or rupture can result in internal bleeding, weakness, or sudden collapse. When indicated, splenectomy is performed to control hemorrhage, stabilize the patient, and address underlying splenic disease contributing to acute clinical signs.

In addition to the procedures listed above, urgent surgical intervention may be required for:

  • Urinary obstruction in male cats (PU surgery)

  • Internal bleeding

  • Severe abdominal pain of unknown origin

  • Traumatic soft tissue injury

Each case is assessed promptly during regular business hours to determine appropriate stabilization and surgical intervention.

Stabilization & Surgical Intervention

Urgent surgical cases require rapid clinical assessment to determine whether immediate operative care is necessary. Diagnostic testing, intravenous fluid support, and other stabilization measures are provided as needed before anesthesia. Surgical decisions are based on clinical findings, patient stability, and the underlying condition requiring intervention.
